NFA Buying Guide

The following instructions are written for those who are purchasing an NFA item (Suppressor or Shot Barreled Rifle [SBR]) to be picked up at the Alpine Shooting Range store in Fort Worth.
If you are having the NFA item shipped to an gun shop closer to you, the processes is much the same but will be conducted with your local gun shop.
Please Keep in mind all Suppressors & Short Barrel Rifles are NFA items that require Government Form 4s to be sent in for processing and approval.
Since we use a company called Silencer Shop for all NFA paperwork processing, we can take care of all personal info/fingerprints and Photos using the Silencer Shop kiosk at our store location, the forms are signed via email and the certification done online to send in the paperwork.
If you order from our online store, there will be no shipping, but a processing fee of $35 is required for all NFA items. Once we receive the suppressor you ordered, we will give you a call to come bye the shop, and we will walk you through the entire process.
As of 2/12/2026, approval times have been anywhere from 15-25 days, but this of course can change in time.
Also keep in mind shipping from dealer to dealer of NFA items requires a Form 3 Approval before shipping, so expect around a week for us to receive the item, depending on how quickly the distributor sending us the suppressor submits the form.
For NFA transfers, we will need a copy of the gun shop's Federal Firearms License (FFL) and their Special Tax Stamp (SOT). It is highly recommended that you contact your local gun shop before purchase to ensure that they are willing to conduct an NFA transfer. At that time, please have them email their FFL and SOT to admin@alpinerange.com
Silencer or SBR Buying Process
  1. Pick out the silencer or SBR that fits your needs.
  2. Decide if you want to file as an individual or through a trust. Trust Options are to setup a traditional trust through silencershops website, or pay $25 per suppressor for a single shot trust that does not require a notary, but will essentially be a separate trust for each suppressor you buy. Filing individually may reduce the processing time to weeks instead of months.  Individuals can expect from a few weeks to 3 months.  Trusts can expect a few weeks to 4 months.
  3. Pay in full or layaway (20% down)
  4. Use the kiosk to input your fingerprints/personal info. We will walk you through this.
  5. Download the silencershop phone app to take your picture. We can also do this for you whilst you are here.
  6. In a few days you will receive an email from silencershop with the Form 4 to sign electronically.  You will receive step by step emails from SilencerShop.
  7. Due to the switch over from paper forms to electronic filing, there is an additional step involved.
  8. Once you are done signing, you will need to go the the atf eform website at eforms.atf.gov and create an account using your full name and the same email used for the silencershop kiosk. Record your user ID they send you after registering and the 4 digit pin you create because you will need this for the efile certification.
  9. When your paperwork is ready for efile certification, both SilencerShop and Alpine will contact you.
For any questions about the process please email shane@alpinerange.com or give the shop a call at 817-478-6613.
