Progress of redesign - working on holsters

Jul 19th 2024

Usability has been a primary focus for our website design.

The design that benefits phone use (mobile first design) is necessary but can frustrate a PC user who is able to utilize the greater screen space.  The PC first design can offer tremendous flexibility but frustrate a mobile device user.

Building two different navigation methods within the same site is the solution, but only if the person who is cataloging and naming the products has direct product knowledge AND if the person coding the navigation is able to work seamlessly with the cataloging person.  In Alpine's situation, I am doing both.

Using a mobile first design as the default, I have provided links to jump maps in firearm, magazine, ammunition and optics sections.  I am doing the same thing for the holsters currently.

My goal for each jump map is to allow a PC user to very quickly get to the exact products that they seek.

For holsters, there are a multitude of aspects that make presenting the selections complex.  Here is the thought process:

Location on or off the body of the firearm (inside or outside the waistband, shoulder, ankle, etc.)

Design of the holster to be used (open top, retention, light bearing, belt loop, paddle, sweat guard, etc.)

What specific firearm is to be carried.  The reason I placed this as third choice is that many firearms are unsuitable to be carried in various locations.  For example, a Beretta 92Xi would be impractical to carry in an ankle holster.

When the number of products for the first three options exceed 50, I have been providing a further ability to filter by Materials or other options.

The plan is to provide a jump map for holsters that are firearm specific but will probably not include the multi-fit holsters.  The Multi-Fit holsters can be filtered by firearm fitment and possibly firearm size.  These would be the best place to find a holster for a firearm not listed in the holster categories.
